Why it pays to be a couch potato if you want to lose weight
If you want to lose weight, or eat better, or even workout more - and change the way you look and feel long term - we say the best place to start is the couch.
If you just want to distract yourself for the next week or so, (or lose weight for your sister's wedding next month)
then go ahead and sign-up for that new gym membership.
Or get up and throw out all the ‘bad food’ in your house and replace it with kale.
But we all know where you’ll end up in a couple weeks (or at most a couple months)…
Back on your couch eating pizza or whatever.
There’s nothing wrong with that.
It’s a great place to be.
Because the only way to start a journey to someplace truly different is to start where you are.
Until you know what triggers you and when…
(and how to deal with the emotions and that lie underneath those triggers)
Until you know what got you where you are in the first place…
(and have a crystal clear vision of where you want to go)
Until you get in the habit of making new habits…
(and seeing the impact that small, sustainable changes can have over time)
Any changes you make are likely just going to digging you deeper into the ruts you’ve already made for yourself.
Because each time, we tell ourselves we’re going to make a change and then ultimately end up back where we started, we are reinforcing the belief deep down that we can’t really change.
And that leads to more painful emotions that we avoid (mostly) with food.
So we say don’t leave the couch…
