But if you ever catch yourself checking the calories on the side of a box of crackers, or thinking “I’ve already eaten a lot today, I should have a salad.”
Then you need a reminder.
Calorie counting is pointless and ineffective.
A calorie is not just a calorie.
It’s true that people have proven the point that you can lose weight by eating nothing but twinkies, so long as you are exerting more calories than you are taking in.
But how long do you think you could survive on nothing but twinkles before your system starts to shut down?
Quality of ingredients matters.
Eating whole, unprocessed foods is what your body most likely wants.
And when your body gets what it wants, everything goes more smoothly.
Digestion is quicker.
You feel more alert and energetic, for longer periods of time.
You sleep better.
This isn’t an accident, and it has nothing to do with how many calories you’re getting, and everything to do with what kind of calories you’re getting.
Eat until you’re satisfied.
It’s a natural way of getting the right amount of food for your body.
The reason why we’ve invented caloric restriction is because we’ve been conditioned to eat a bunch of unnatural foods that overload our brain with immediate pleasure, which encourages us to ignore when our body says enough.
So here’s your two-step tango, that will solve 90% of your health problems in the long run.
Step 1: Cut back on processed foods, and stick to cooking whole, healthy foods with lots of good fats (butter, avocado, coconut, nut butters)
Step 2: Eat until you’re satisfied, then stop.
If this sounds easier said than done, it’s really not that hard.
