How to lose weight? Be a couch potato

If you’re really ready to get your body back (or get it for the first time) the best place to start is on the couch.

If you prefer to distract yourself for the next couple weeks, go ahead and sign-up for that new gym membership.

Or get up and throw out all the ‘bad food’ in your house and replace it with kale.

But you know where you’ll end up in a couple weeks (or at most maybe a couple of months)…

Right back where you are now.

There’s nothing wrong with that.

Where you are now is a great place to be…

Because it’s the only place you can start from, if you want to get somewhere different.

Let me explain.

You may see skinny women out eating just salads for lunch…

Or muscular ones out for a jog...

You look around and think everyone’s got it together, and if you could just do what they’re doing, you’re life would be so different. If you could just pull it together and do whatever they're doing, you'd eventually get where they are.

This is solid logic.

And it’s what’s sold and told to us on a daily basis.

But it doesn’t actually work.

Because there’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes. You don’t know how that woman got to where she is, or if she’s even healthy.

The only place you can start is where you are right now.

Until you know what triggers you and when… (and how to deal with the emotions and that lie underneath those triggers)

Until you know what got you where you are in the first place…(and have a crystal clear vision of where you want to go)

Until you get in the habit of making new habits…(and seeing the impact that small, sustainable changes can have over time)

Any changes you make are likely just going to dig you deeper into your ruts.

Because each time, you tell yourself you’re going to make a change and then ultimately end up back where you started, you are reinforcing the belief deep down that you can’t really change.

And that leads to more painful emotions that you avoid (most likely) with food.

So we say don’t leave the couch…

Unless it’s to sign-up for Lose Weight for the Last Time, where you’ll learn everything you didn’t know you need to know to finally make the changes you need to make to have the body you want.
